Year Around Spring Cleaning

The most common time to deep clean around the house and get rid everything that clutters your closest or bedrooms is spring. However recently I’ve felt the burden of just having too much. So many others are lucky to have a different shirt each day of the week at most and I want a different outfit for every day in a month! But lately I’ve been wondering how I’m supposed to put God first when my life is so cluttered. I’ve put together a super helpful list that helps me get rid of so much when I feel like splurge cleaning.

  • Take every single thing out of your closet (it’s going to get messy before it gets neat)
  • Start with the shirts and dresses: I hold up 3-5 things at one time, and get rid of at least one thing out of that group. The things I’m getting rid of either go into things I will sell on Poshmark or go to a pile to a consignment store.
  • While you’re hanging everything back up, look at every single thing. You don’t need two army green jackets, or two sleeveless black dresses! Get rid of one if they’re are similarities.
  • Do a similar process with pants, but just try them on and make sure they fit. If they’re two sizes too big or small, just get rid of them. No point of keeping them around “just incase”
  • Next, move onto shoes, if you haven’t worn them in the last year I promise they really aren’t a staple or a classic. Get rid of them.
  • You can now move on to makeup. If it’s empty or almost empty throw it away! Makeup really does have expired dates; those aren’t just suggestions. They can gather up super harmful chemicals that you’re putting on your face. Get rid of them!
  • Next move to “that corner” or the “junk drawer”, take a huge trash bag and either fill it up or find a place for those things where you’ll actually use them!
  • I struggle with throwing away cards. What if they find out? What if I end up being really good friends with them later. Sure, if they write you a super long sweet letter for your birthday or just to say hello, by all means, keep it! However, if its a generic “Happy Birthday, so glad God put you in my life”, Much Love, Aunt Sally, get rid of it. You’ll get to read the same message for the rest of your birthdays; no point in keeping all of them.

Luke 12:33-34: Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Honestly getting rid of everything can almost become addictive. Yes it’s hard to get rid of those first few shirts but after a few days you won’t even miss it and you’ll be dying to get rid of more!

Poshmark Obsessed!

I was sitting in a science class one day when one of my best friends walked in. She was wearing a long dress with flowers at the bottom. This was dress to die for; I mean so cute. I had to know where she got it so it could end up being my new favorite store! At that moment she pulled out her phone and showed me the app that would change my entire way of shopping and saving money. Both are two things that define me pretty well. I sell something or purchase something once a week. In fact just today these adorable Black Jack Rogers were delivered to me! I got these for cheaper than retail even though there was not a single sign they had been worn! It’s amazing, the previous owner had bought the wrong size but didn’t want the money she had spent to go to waste. Instead of bringing them to a consignment store and getting $10 for them, she sold them herself, and I got them for only $90! Check out more from this amazing closet once you download the app and go to  @ajubert!

@visionsofvogue has adorable clothes that have barely any wear in them, I love everything in her closet.

I love poshmark, and I I don’t know I how bought affordable clothes or got rid of mine before this app! I think my favorite thing about Poshmark is somebody’s closet could be like your favorite store! You can bookmark a closet on your computer or just search when you’re looking for something specific! I also love the offer button. All of my prices are negotiable, and most sellers prices are too so if you like it but wish it was just a little less hit that offers button! It doesn’t hurt to ask(: Plus they can always counter! Check out my closet for clothes I wore day to day and remember most people love offers, comments or shares!

Don’t get me wrong, I still adore consignment stores, and still sell and buy from real places but this is just a great tool to keep on your phone.

Have a fab week & Happy Poshing!

I Went to South Africa!

I haven’t updated my blog in two weeks because I had taken a 23 hour flight half way across the world to the beautiful country of South Africa for a mission trip with some really amazing people.

Differences to look for:

The first thing I realized when I pulled up to the mountain in Johannesburg was the protection around every single property. When I asked a guy about it there, his words were; “It’s all about protection here, you have to put up a gate around your property and your house, you must lock your door and the door to your bedroom when you sleep. Most people are also armed a majority of the time” said a man who worked for Door of Hope, a ministry that saves abandoned babies. Learn more here. The next thing I learned was pleasantries that were almost required in stores and everyday interaction. When I run into a grocery store and have to speak to someone it’s usually just “Where are the bananas?” and that’s it. In Johannesburg, this was definitely not a thing. You had to say hello, ask how they were and often you would learn their names, and where they were from. It was a lot more personable and easy to make friends. The first night I was there a local missionary gave us a lesson in different words, candy was called sweeties. Shopping carts were trollies and vacations were called going on Holiday.
Packing List

  • 3 pairs of Jeans (or whatever possible minimum you are able to pack)
  • 3 pairs of shorts
  • 7 t-shirts, short or long sleeved
  • Chaco’s
  • Tennis Shoes
  • Plastic Flip Flops (you never know about the shower)
  • Toiletries: shampoo, conditioner, face and body wash, toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Hairbrush
  • Detangle spray
  • Bible/Notebook
  • Quick drying towel and wash rag
  • Advil (helps with headaches because of jet lag)

My Experience

I think mission trips are not only perfect for those receiving spiritual or physical help but also for the person giving that help. I believe that it can really show a person how God wants to work in them. Whether you can go on a mission trip to the next town over, two states over or across the world I suggest you go and follow the Lord’s will.

Going to Prom

I go to a very small Christian school, and when I say small, I mean I know everybody’s full name and what everyone likes to do for fun or what they hate. However, unlike most small schools we actually do have a prom but its all of high school so not many people go. One of my friends from a bible study I do asked me to go to his prom with him so I was much more excited to go to his huge public school prom.

I would say I’m a pretty simple person, I had no clue what I wanted for my dress but this one was definitely more glitz than I had imagined but I ended up loving it the moment I tried it on.

I did my makeup myself because I’m not terrible at it and didn’t really want to pay to get someone else to do it. I started with a primer and covered my whole face, went in with a very thick foundation, concealer and highlighter. I used a powder on top and then went over the powder with highlighter again, bronzer and blush. I used a pencil to draw in my eyebrows since I have very blonde eyebrows. I use a stick eyeliner because no matter how hard I try I can never master the liquid or gel liner. I used the urban decay eyeshadow and my mascara. (See tips for getting longer lashes here)

I did however go actually get my hair done since I can barely even curly my hair myself and I loved how it turned out.

I hope everyone who is reading this has a great prom or has had a great prom, and I hope this helped anyone!

Mothers Day

Mothers Day is May 8 this year and is an excellent way to express to our mothers, grandmothers, or mother figures how much we appreciate them. I plan on celebrating my mom along with my brothers in multiple ways. I plan on having a gold and black theme, that’s how I wrapped all the presents, and we have gold plates, I think it’s super cute. So I just thought I’d give some examples of great gifts or things to do to celebrate mothers.

  • I got my mom this adorable trench coat from Charming Charlie; it wasn’t planned, but I saw it and knew she had to have it. (Similar)
  • I also got my mom this mug from Charming Charlie, The Floral Shop collection. I suggest shopping the collection just because it has a lot of great gifts for mothers or friends. I thought it was a great price and it happened to be my mom’s favorite color and pattern so I’m excited to give it to her.
  • The last thing I got my mom was a book by John Piper, who she like adores. I got the book “The Pleasures of God”.  The book talks a lot about being satisfied in God, and talks about how we are made for God.
  • In the past years, a common gift for my mom for any occasion are pandora charms; she gets them all the time. I like making that a recurring gift because I think gifts you can look forward to are always fun.
  • Get your mother-figure flowers! Tulips are always a nice way to go, or daises!
  • I think it is always sweet to make your mom breakfast in bed, if you’re younger or have younger siblings.
  • Other past years I made my mom something with pictures. In elementary school, I cut up pictures of my family and pasted them to a piece of construction paper and laminated it for her. In middle school, I got a picture of myself and brothers and framed it, and I’m pretty sure it’s still in the kitchen. This is good for sentimental moms.
  • Going to a movie with your mom is always a great idea because you get to laugh or cry together & appreciate some quality time. A good movie out at the moment is Mother’s Day.

I hope some of these ideas were helpful, and if you have any other good ones just comment them below!

Also on another note, I just got the app, Poshmark and it is totally the best app ever. It is basically an online consignment store. I suggest you all try it out, and if you do follow me at khale00

Verse of the Week

Jeremiah 17:14: Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; Save me, and I shall be saved, For You are my praise.

Pink & Gold Sweet 16

Every little girl dreams of her life as a teenager. When I was a eight, my oldest brother was 16, the age where he started going to parties all the time. Eight years later I still remember the pink invitation he got in the mail inviting him to a friends sweet 16. It was hot pink and glittery, and her party was HUGE. Since that day, I thought about what my sweet sixteenth would look like. Both my brothers just got things like a shirt for their sixteenth and had big parties for their 18th. In my house, we stop having parties around ten years old, so I wasn’t sure if I would have my sweet 16 but I still wondered how I would plan it. When I was about 14-15 I tried to disassociate myself from the whole girly thing and stuck to hiking or camping but lately, I found myself back into monograms and cute clothes, so I was conflicted about what to do for my party, stuck between two opposite personalities. I finally decided on doing a bonfire in the backyard, but every decoration was pink and gold and sparkly, I loved it.

I love this cake from cupcake bites in Fuquay-Varina! It was so good too!

We had a sweets tabel in the formal dining room and I decorated the walls with funny pictures from my childhood. My friends thought they were silly and I loved seeing them.

I had to have a cute place for my friends to take pictures! I got these streamers and taped them to the top of the wall in my kitchen, and put some gold balloons with it. I got mine from Party City and the wall was a huge hit!

Here’s just one super silly picture my good friend, Becca, and I took! Love her so much!

Screen Shot 2016-04-11 at 5.14.57 PM.png

I didn’t get a picture with everyone who came to my party, people were coming and going, but I’m so thankful I have such great friends, and I’m glad I got a chance to have a party!

My outfit in the pictures: White top from fedora, ripped jeans from target, a pink necklace from Apricot Lane with brown boots from DSW.

Verse of the Week

Psalms 19:1 – The heavens declare the glory of God, and the skies above proclaim the work of his hands.

Have a fab week!

I Went to Texas!

Spring break arrived for me as it comes for every student, the anticipation that came with the weeks before brought me into an exciting trip to Texas. I live in NC, so I took a plane, which was very bumpy due to very stormy weather. I didn’t think it could have been possible that I had a blast just touring schools, but even 1,204 miles away from my beloved home I had an exciting and very busy week!

Screen Shot 2016-04-04 at 4.34.17 PMThe silos at Magnolia Market Place!

Just a few candles I thought about getting at Magnolia market place!

My family actually bonds over the popular HGTV show, Fixer Upper, hosted by this adorable couple, Chip, and Joanna. I suggest you all watch it, and if you’re ever in Texas swing by their market, even if you aren’t into beautiful home decor, the atmosphere was great. They completed the community-like market with green grass in the back, music some nights, a garden and even a line of food trucks! (If you do, try the crepe one! Yum!!)

Screen Shot 2016-04-04 at 4.41.25 PM.png

If you are in Waco at any point and enjoy the popular pop, Dr Pepper, the museum is right around the corner from Magnolia Markets!

Screen Shot 2016-04-04 at 4.43.12 PM.pngI fell in love with Dallas! I didn’t have an official tour at SMU, but I did drive through the campus, which was beautiful, and stopped at the George W. Bush Library! Even if you’re not a huge history person, I think it’s worth a visit, it’s packed out with information but it’s not boring information, you can “vote” on what you think about particular issues, or get your picture made into a campaigning “ad.” I totally enjoyed this part of Dallas Texas.

Screen Shot 2016-04-04 at 4.46.43 PM.png

After leaving the amazing TCU, we stopped at the Fort Worth Stockade. This was a little 1800’s cowboys in the west movie. It was super cute and reenacted the bringing in of cows.

Verse of the Week

James 1:2-4:  Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Have a fabulous,
