If you take any interests in the presidential campaign, you’ve probably realized there are so many people running for president! Sometimes, it can be hard to keep track who wants what, so I’ve laid it out here in an easy way to understand. (I watch the debates but every time I’m like woah, what?! Use some normal words, please!!)
Trump: Trump feels very strongly on securing our border, believing we should let immigrants in our country, but they must go through a process. He wants to send all illegal immigrants back from where they came. Despite what Trump has said in the past; he is now very pro-life. Donald Trump has said multiple times that America should protect the second amendment. He has a concealed weapon permit and believes many others should as well. Mr. Trump wants to increase military presence in Syria, and “bomb the “heck” out of Isis” (Patriot-News).
Cruz: Cruz wants to nearly triple security presence at our borders, and he would like to build a wall that works, according to his Twitter. Ted Cruz has said made it clear that every life is a gift, and he wants to cut funding for planned parenthood. Cruz has also come out and said we need to honor the second amendment, and everyone has a right to self-defense. Cruz wants to stand alongside Israel and keep Syrians out of our country. He believes in a flat tax rate and plans to abolish the IRS.
Bush: Jeb believes that there should be a “path” every immigrant must go down to become legal; work, don’t break the law, learn English and contribute to society. Bush believes that life is a gift from God and that planned parenthood shouldn’t get a penny. He has gone as far to say that he was the “most pro-life candidate on the stage.” Bush believes having guns represents our freedoms. However, the laws should be stricter on allowing criminals or those with mental illnesses to get guns. Governor Bush also wants to lower taxes and make sure we are not using tax money for excess spending.
Rubio: Marco Rubio wants to get illegal immigration “under control”. He plans to do this by increasing security on the border. Rubio mentioned that he does not wish to tell anyone what to do with their bodies, but personally he believes that life is a gift given that everyone should be able to live. When asked about gun control Rubio says it is not the guns that are the problem; it is the people, and gun laws will not prevent killing. Rubio wants to make sure taxes are pro-family and believes that our taxes make it so that America is one of the most expensive places to innovate and invest.
Carson: Dr. Carson says that we are a nation of immigrants, and we should welcome anybody who wants to be an American. However, he also says we need to seal the borders, and not just the north and south borders but also the Pacific and Atlantic. Ben Carson thinks abortion is wrong, but circumstances could change in a medical situation, in fact, he has advised people in a dangerous medical condition to get an abortion. However, he says we need to consider abortion in the fact of human life. Carson says that gun control wouldn’t work because criminals aren’t law-abiding. He once said the same thing that happened in Paris wouldn’t happen here on the same scale because we have guns. Ben Carson wants to implement flat tax as well.
Kasich: Kasich has made the point of saying that it is a ludicrous idea that we could deport all the immigrants, and if they are law-abiding they should be able to stay. However, our border should be protected according to Kasich. Governor Kasich plans to defund planned parenthood and believes abortion is wrong except for in cases of rape, medical issues, or incest. John is an active, and emotional supporter of Israel and thinks we should have never committed ourselves to Iraq. He thinks we need to build up our military and discard the Iran deal (if Iran stops trying to make nuclear bombs we will remove our sanctions). John Kasich wants to cut taxes and restrain the growth of the government.
I hope you all found this helpful and can understand the issues enough to have intelligent conversations. Obviously, I did not cover all of the issues; I tried to focus on what I hear come up a lot. If you want to know more go to google and type in candidates name on the issues. Look for a Democrat on the issues coming soon!
